Calorific value

Calorific value-

it is the quantity of heat produce by burning the unit mass of fuel.
it's unit is  kJ/kg
  1. Kerosene 10500 kcal/kg
  2. Jet fuel 10400 kcal/kg
  3. Charcoal 6900 kcal/kg

HCV(higher calorific value,gross calorific value)-

The amount of heat evolved when a unit weight (or volume in the case of gaseous fuels) of the fuel is completely burnt and the products of combustion cooled to the normal conditions (with water vapor, volatile material,Ash etc). The heat contained in the water vapor,Ash,volatile material must be recovered in the condensation process.

LCV(lower calorific value)-

Lower calorific value of a fuel portion is defined as the amount of heat evolved when a unit weight or volume (in the case of gas) of the fuel is completely burnt and water vapor leaves with the combustion products without being condensed.

LCV= HCV - (Heat carried by vapor products or steam )
