Sustainability is the development that satisfies the needs of the present without compromising the capacity of future generations, guaranteeing the balance between economic growth, care for the environment and social well-being.

Sustainable development is a concept that appeared for the first time in 1987 with the publication of the Brundtland Report, warning of the negative environmental consequences of economic growth and globalization, which tried to find possible solutions to the problems caused by industrialization and population growth.

sustainable development can be achieved by following way-
  1. Environmental sustainability
  2. social sustainability
  3. economical sustainability

Environmental sustainability

  • The goal of environmental sustainability is to conserve natural resources and to develop renewable sources of power while reducing pollution and harm to the environment
  • For environmental sustainability, the state of the future – as measured in 50, 100 and 1,000 years is the guiding principle.
  • Many of the projects that are rooted in environmental sustainability will involve replanting forests, preserving wetlands and protecting natural areas from resource harvesting.
  • The biggest criticism of environmental sustainability initiatives is that their priorities can be at odds with the needs of a growing industrialized society.
  • More research and development is also needed in the areas of sustainable development to create better engineering and construction options that are more in keeping with environmental sustainable goals.
  • The best approach is to educate the consumers, and the industry, to leave behind an either/or approach to development and conservation and to take on a balanced ratio approach that seeks the best of both worlds.

Social sustainability

  • To ensure that all human beings can fulfill their potential in dignity and equality and in a healthy environment.
  • poverty eradication strategies,
  • policies to enhance access to quality education, basic healthcare, safe drinking water, sanitation, group-specific policies.
  •  All laws lead to the overall betterment of society for Americans

Economical sustainability

Sustainability focuses on equal economic growth, that generates wealth for all, without harming the environment.
Investment and equal distribution of the economic resources will strengthen the other pillars of sustainability for complete development.
